Karma Tarot

[Strength] [Nine of Coins] The Karma Tarot is Danish artist Birgit Boline Erfurt's phantasmagoric rendering of the colorful people she saw at Christiania from 1976-1978. At that time, Christiania was a self-contained haven in Copenhagen for artists, musicians and other free spirits of the counter-culture. Erfurt sketched at night using the light of a wood fire, then added colors during the daylight - watercolors with gouache technique. She created her deck in sequence beginning with the Fool, and she used her friends and the characters around her as the models for her designs. The title of the deck comes from Karma Music, the artist's music concern. The company published a limited edition of 400 sets of the major arcana in 1978. The full deck was first published in 1983. The logo for Karma Music is the main feature of the back design.
